A very special visit: A staggering 160,000 children in the UK will see their families shattered this year when one of their parents – mostly dads – is sent to prison. Now, through a pioneering new project in three British jails, children can visit their dad to play in prison. Not only do experts think it will keep families together, but prisoners are six times less likely to reoffend when released.
Ex-straw-dinary!: Buildings made out of straw might sound like the stuff of fairy tales, but the new Victory Hall in Norfolk is turning this innovative concept into reality, thanks to the Big Lottery Fund.
The Beautiful game: Young people in Westcliffe, Scunthorpe are getting off the streets, out of trouble and on to the football pitch, thanks to one local resident’s hard work... and a little bit of Lottery cash.
Happy hour: When Beryl Cooper’s husband died, she struggled with the loneliness and the fear of growing old without him. But that’s all changed now a Lottery-funded project has given Beryl and the older people of Havering a new lease of life.
