Data Protection and Insurance

Data Protection

The Big Lottery Fund ensures that the requirements of the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998 are fully complied with. The purpose of the Act is to protect the rights and privacy of individuals and to ensure that personal data is not processed without their knowledge and, where possible, is processed with their consent.

Personal Data

Board and Committee Members are, on appointment, asked to complete a Personal Data form
- 64KB
which is retained by the Board Secretariat.

Access to personal files

Board and Committee Members are entitled to see their personal data. To see it, they must send a request in writing to the Board Secretariat – this is known under the Data Protection Act as ‘Subject Data Request’. The Board Secretariat will contact the Member and arrange for them to view their records. Members can also be given access to their personal employment file, which is held manually within Human Resources. If Members wish to view their file, send a written request to HR Shared Services via the Board Secretariat. They will be informed when the records are available, and, if any information is withheld, will be given the reason for the decision. In line with the Data Protection Act, only authorised staff have access to personal files.

Personal Accident Insurance

All Board and Committee Members are covered by personal accident insurance, which cover Members up to their 74th birthday.  The policy only covers Members whilst engaged on Big Lottery Fund duties, including travel to and from meetings and events on behalf of the Big Lottery Fund.
